Rescinded: This document is no longer current

Summary

This policy directive provides a definitive overview of best transfusion practice covering the whole healthcare organisation based transfusion chain of events, i.e. from when a blood product is received from the blood service into a clinical facility, its storage, safe matching to an individual patient, delivery and then the immediate and follow up care of the patient who is administered any blood product. A key change is for the introduction of double independent checking at the administration check.
